Body without breath—
faith alone, without good deeds,
is lifeless and still.
A teacher’s tongue may spark a forest flame,
Though small, it boasts and stains the soul with strife.
It blesses God, then curses man the same—
A spring should not pour death and holy life.
No fig bears olives, nor salt yield fresh streams,
Yet hearts unbridled speak both truth and lies.
The wise are known by peace, not boastful dreams,
Their deeds are gentle, free from envy’s guise.
But bitter zeal breeds chaos, vile and base,
Earthbound, demonic, lacking heaven’s light.
True wisdom wears humility with grace,
Pure, peaceable, and full of mercy’s might.
So let your tongue be bridled by the Dove,
And sow in peace the seeds of truth and love.
