love

Sonnet

Trust, hope, love remain—
Yet love outshines all the rest,
Root and crown of grace.
Though tongues of men and angels I may speak,
Without love’s flame, I’m clanging brass, not song.
Prophetic sight and mysteries I seek—
Yet loveless wisdom fails to make me strong.
Trust, hope, love remain—
Yet love outshines all the rest,
Root and crown of grace.
If faith could move the mountains from their place,
And I gave all, my body burned for show,
Without love’s pulse, I vanish into space—
A hollow act, a seed that will not grow.
Trust, hope, love remain—
Yet love outshines all the rest,
Root and crown of grace.
Love suffers long, and kindness marks its way,
It envies not, nor boasts, nor seeks its own.
It bears, believes, and hopes through night and day,
Its roots endure when fleeting gifts are gone.
Trust, hope, love remain—
Yet love outshines all the rest,
Root and crown of grace.
Now dimly through a mirror we perceive,
But love reveals the face we shall believe.
Trust, hope, love remain—
Yet love outshines all the rest,
Root and crown of grace.
