Trouble
Sonnet – “In the Day of My Trouble”
When midnight weeps and silence does not speak,
My hands outstretched still find no trace of rest.
I groan in memory, my spirit weak,
As doubt invades the refuge I loved best.
my meditation—
works of old light up my soul,
and awe blooms, selah.
Have You, O God, forgotten how to grace?
Will mercy’s fire no longer light the past?
Yet through the shadows, I will seek Your face,
Recall the wonders of Your deeds steadfast.
my meditation—
works of old light up my soul,
and awe blooms, selah.
The seas obeyed You, thunder bowed in fear;
Your path unseen still broke the mighty tide.
With trembling hearts, our fathers drew You near,
Led by the hand no storm could override.
my meditation—
works of old light up my soul,
and awe blooms, selah.
I cry, but faith walks deeper than my sigh—
A fire of old still burning in the sky.
So I will remind myself of Yah’s doings; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will meditate on your work and think about what you have done.

Haiku (based on verse 12)
my meditation—
works of old light up my soul,
and awe blooms, selah.
